Yarraboldy Briquette
Company was a finalist in this years 2004 Prestigious The Premier of Queensland
Smart Awards in the Mining and Minerals Processing category.
Briquetting
waste coal fines:
Since 1999
Yarraboldy has been briquetting waste coal fines at the Wallerawang Collieries
site in Lithgow, NSW. These fines are the by-products from the coal washing
process that was once operating on this site.
These briquettes
are then sold to Delta Electricity's Mt Piper power station as a power
generation fuel. The average production for this plant is 6000 tons per
month.
The ability
to convert these fines from a waste product to a commercially saleable
product has been based on the specialised coal retrieval techniques developed
by Yarraboldy and the binder Yarraboldy has developed which drives the
excess moisture off the coal when curing and retains the sulphur content
of the coal as an inert mineral in the ash.
There is
also a very important environmental aspect to what Yarraboldy is achieving
on this project. When coal fines are exposed to rain, sulphur leaches
into the water supply and adversely affects the water quality, leading
to a number of environmental and health issues. By removing the fines
the threat of water contamination is also removed.
This project
was featured in the Australia's Longwalls mining magazine;
This project
has approxaminatly 2 years of coal fines left; estimated wind up is June
2006.
Biomass fuels:
Yarraboldy
is a major supplier of Biomass fuels to the power generation industry
in NSW. Most of the Biomass is processed from construction and demolition
waste, sourced from transfer stations in an area form Sydney to the central
west. |
